Walking has been shown to help with many conditions from back pain, to stress, and now daily walks have been shown to correlate with the likelihood of having a Total Knee Replacement.
Today's #throwbackweek post was one of our most shared posts (shared over 300 times 😮)! Take a look 👀👇 ___ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Association of daily walking with the risk of total knee replacement over 5 years 🚶♂️🚶♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ RESULTS 📋⠀ 1️⃣️ Older adults (≥65 years) were: ⠀ -12% less likely to have a TKR for each additional 1000 steps/day walked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - 52% less likely to have a TKR if they walked 6000 steps/day or more vs. those who did not. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣ No overall significant association between daily walking and risk of total knee replacement over 5 years in the overall sample or in younger adults. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS⠀ ➡️ 6000 steps/day is known to reduce the risk of functional limitation in knee OA. This evidence suggests that when possible clinicians should encourage physical activity for people with knee OA. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📗 REFERENCE Master, H., Thoma, L., Christiansen, M., Stefanik, J., Mathews, D., & White, D.
